History of Avon

Welcome to the History of Avon, Massachuetts!

In 1988, in celebration of the Town of Avon's Centennial, a history was commissioned from Mr. William F. Hanna. The result was a small bound book produced and made available to the citizens of Avon. This web page and those that follow are a transcription of this wonderful history to the web, making it even more easily accessible to citizens and historians, young and old. Eventually, it will also form the basis for an ongoing history project with links to many other web sites containing information relevant and interesting to Avon citizens. Please send typographical errors to the attention of webmaster@avonmss.net

Most sincere thanks to Mr. Donald Curtis of Toronto, Ontario (and a living descendent of Moses Curtis!!!) and Deborah Hewitt of Avon, MA for their very generous contributions in proofreading these chapters to ensure that we have an accurate electronic transcription of Mr. Hanna's work.
